Did you know that Pneu-Dart manufactures specialty Remote Delivery Devices
(RDDs) designed for a number of uses in the agricultural industry? There are times
when handling an animal isn’t feasible, whether it be to obtain a tissue sample or
address another medical issue with an animal. With over 55 years of experience,
Pneu-Dart has the solution for these challenges.
DNA and Biopsy RDD Options
Our DNA and Biopsy RDDs offer producers, veterinarians, and wildlife biologists a
way to collect tissue samples without the risks associated with capturing animals.
The DNA extraction device is designed to gather both dermis and hypodermis
material. It features an aluminum nose cone integrated with a stainless-steel cutter
(approximately 0.165” × 0.150”) that houses a barbed “capture claw” to ensure
sample retention. Upon impact, the device retains the sample and falls to the
ground. Like all Pneu-Dart RDDs, our DNA devices are available in three tail designs:
Type ‘C’ for Cartridge-Fired Projectors, Type ‘P’ for CO2 and Air-Activated Projectors,
and Type ‘U’ with flight stabilizers.
Our Biopsy RDDs are ideal for gathering larger tissue samples for analysis. Similar
to the DNA device, it contains a ferrule “cutter” that protects a three-barbed capture
claw. After delivery, simply unscrew the ferrule to retrieve the sample.
We also offer Remote Marine Biopsy RDDs, which are both buoyant and designed for
easy retrieval. Once deployed, they float, allowing the operator to collect the
sample safely.
Both DNA and Biopsy RDDs are customized to the appropriate cutter size and barbs
for the target animal. When purchasing, you’ll need to provide the species details so
we can tailor the RDD to your needs.

innovative devices.
RAD – Remote Animal Deterrent RDDs
Animals often find themselves in unsafe or problematic areas. The Remote Animal
Deterrent (RAD) RDD is an effective tool to scare off unwanted animals in these
situations. This 1.5 cc device, scored along the sides and fitted with a screw,
ruptures upon impact of the targeted surface with a loud report. Please note, the
RAD RDD must be filled with Pyrodex® powder (Pyrodex® powder is not included).
Marking and Topical Treatment RDDs
Our marking devices allow for both visible marking and treatment of animals. We
offer two options: Topical Treatment/Marking and Mark and Inject.
- Topical Treatment RDDs: Designed for applying medication directly to an animal’s skin, these devices are available in 3cc and 5cc volumes and all three tail types (C, P, U). Four 5/32” ports eject the liquid upon impact.
